A Teaching Topic in Human Resource Management

Managing People: Performance, Recruitment, Renewal

This topic deals with human resource management in the public sector, and the specific challenges facing public sector managers in Canada today. Students consider effective strategies for attracting and retaining talent in the public sector, and consider the advantages and risks associated with reliance upon performance-based pay.

Topic Learning Outcome:  Students will be familiar with the major objectives of human resource management in the public sector, the challenges that can make it difficult to achieve those objectives, and successful strategies for overcoming such challenges.
