A Teaching Topic in Ethics and Accountability

Trust, Accountability and Legitimacy

This topic considers how governments build and lose trust from their citizens, and how governments establish legitimacy. This topic examines the role of accountability, transparency and due process in generating public trust in government. Students are also introduced to the concept of regulatory capture and how this phenomenon can undermine government performance and public trust in government.
