Program Comparison Highlights

Institutional Structure: The MBRSG is a freestanding academic institution with the power to grant degrees.

Curriculum Design: The MBRSG MPA is a one-year (three semester) full-time program requiring 12 courses for completion. Typical students take about 79% of their course work in subjects that we classify as Tools and Skills or Management Functions and about 17% of their study is in economic or quantitative courses. This places the RANEPA MGPP degree in the "shorter, more tools/management, lower quantitative" category, along with such programs as the ANZSOG EMPP and the Pennsylvania MPA. The MBRSG MPA does not require an internship but does require a Capstone exercise. It has as a relatively low number of elective courses taught within the school.

"Launched in 2005 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai as the first research and teaching institution focusing on governance and public policy in the Arab world ... the School aims to support good governance in the UAE and the Arab world, and build future leaders through an integrated system offering education and training programs, as well as research and studies. The School's operations are founded on global best practices developed in collaboration with the Kennedy School at Harvard University, and it is considered a unique model for academic institutions in that it focuses on the practical side of governance. The School also collaborates with several government and private institutions both regionally and internationally. The overall design and implementation of training programs is built on the foundation of scientific thought and is inspired by the reality of Arab public administration and with a view to addressing the issues and helping future leaders meet the challenges facing public administration in various parts of the Arab world. MPA Degree Requirements

Summary: "The Master of Public Administration (MPA) program at the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government is an interdisciplinary, professional program that prepares students for high-level positions in the government, quasi-government, or the nonprofit (including philanthropic) sectors. It has a twofold objective: to train students in the modern theory and techniques of public sector management, and to help them better understand the political and social context in which public policies are designed and implemented and public services are provided. The School's focus is to provide a Master’s program that meets the highest international standards of quality." (At, accessed 14 February 2015.).

Duration: 1 year (3 semesters) for full-time students

Academic Prerequisite: Completion of a recognized baccalaureate degree in a discipline appropriate for the MPA with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale, or its established equivalent. A student who meets the above requirements should have minim of three years of relevant work experience, except for who earns high CGPA of 3.5 and higher on a 4.0 scale and already working in public sector or nonprofit organization should have work experience of 18 month and above, at, accessed 14 February 2015.
