This public policy and management subject deals with the policy and administrative challenges facing urban governments, and with the work of strengthening the economic and social conditions within a geographic community, whether that be a city, county or region within a nation state. Courses in this subject may explore theoretical approaches to the role and importance of local government as well as examining the main structures and processes of urban governance. This subject considers the environment in which municipal governments currently operate and how local governments fit into the broader public sector framework. This can include: administrative strategy, organizational change and learning, working with communities, labour relations, leadership, performance management, provincial-municipal relations, municipal finance and regional government.
