Standing Committees

Committees given authority by the House to examine matters that are referred to them by the House or by statute or the standing orders.

Standing committees are the bodies that examine most legislation; they hold public hearings, and debate and amend the legislation during the clause-by-clause process. They are formed for the duration of a Parliament.
