Sessional Lecturer

The sessional lecturer is fully responsible for the presentation of a university course, but has no other responsibilities within a Department, a Faculty, or the University.

(Clark et al., 2009)

---------------------------------

There are two categories of Sessional Lecturers: Sessional Lecturer I shall be assigned tutorial and/or laboratory instruction, Sessional Lecturer II shall be assigned the overall preparation and presentation of an academic course given by a department or program and in addition may be assigned tutorial and/or laboratory instruction. In Alberta, sessional lecturer is a person appointed by the Dean of a Faculty to teach no more than one semester course in a designated semester, except under unusual circumstances. The Board of Governors fixes the stipend for the sessional lecturer annually. On occasion, a sessional lecturer is appointed at a partial stipend to teach a defined portion of the course.
